Standing in the security line at the airport this morning, we were bright-eyed and filled with wanderlust; it’s been awhile since we’ve had the chance to travel and we couldn’t wait to get out of town. But, by the time we arrived in Orlando, all we wanted to do was sleep. Hungry and exhausted, but so glad to be in the sun, we drove to our home for the week, the Sheraton Vistana Resort. On the way, the five of us tried to agree on where to eat lunch (or dinner since the time change made us feel like we just traveled into the future). Finally, Ali said she wanted an “authentic experience.” I liked that suggestion and asked, “What kind of authentic experience do you want?”
“I want to go to Safeway and get a croissant.”
“Yeah, we want to eat like the locals do,” Jackson added.
Instead of granting Ali’s culinary wish, we checked into our resort, put our luggage away in our beautiful two-bedroom condo, then walked around our resort. We passed a few restaurants and pools, making note of where we’d like to visit this week. We ate dinner at Zimmie’s Bar and Grill. During the meal, I recited a nursery rhyme to the kids that they loved when they were little (“To market to market to buy a fat pig...”). This was my boy’s reaction to my attempt at nostalgia:

We stopped by The Market Place on our way home to pick up some groceries for the week and that was about the highlight of our night. Back home, Chad popped popcorn and we watched a movie before everyone went to bed. Our uneventful day of travel was just what this family needed; we re-connected, we laughed, and we didn't worry about a thing. Tomorrow, we will experience Disney World for our very first time. Wish us luck.
Look for the bare necessities
Forget about your worries and your strife.
I mean the bare necessities
Old Mother Nature's recipes
That brings the bare necessities of life.
